Since 1995, 12 cargo facilities totaling over 400,000 square feet have been constructed by the private sector and more cargo facilities are planned.

On May 30, 2005, FedEx added daily LRD-MEM scheduled Airbus 310 service. This is in addition to the daily LRD/AFW Boeing 727 service. Federal Express is utilizing approximately 60% of the existing N.E. Cargo Apron.

During September 2005, DHL upgraded service to LRD from a daily Shorts 360 feeder aircraft to DC-9.

On June 2, 2006, UPS upgraded service to LRD from daily B-727 to B-757.

An additional $10 million in private sector investment is anticipated as a result of this project.

Phase II will give the Laredo International Airport the needed capacity to meet current and near term demand for air cargo development and enable the airport to remain financially self-sustaining.

Engineering plans and specifications are ready to bid Phase II.

The City of Laredo requests a FY 2006 AIP Discretionary Grant in the amount of $2.5 million to construct Phase 3 of the Northeast Cargo Apron.
