    BACKGROUND
    Council District: I - Alfredo Agredano
    Proposed use: Mini storage warehouses
    Site: The site is currently vacant land.
    Surrounding land uses: North of the site is vacant land. East of this site is single family residences, a mobile home, vacant land, and Macias Jr. tire shop. South of the site is vacant land, single family residences, and an aluminum recycling business. West to the site is Hwy. 83.
    Comprehensive Plan: The Future Land Use Map recognizes this area as Park/Rec. Open Space.
    Transportation Plan: The Long Range Thoroughfare Plan recognizes US Hwy. 83 as a major arterial and does not recognize Diaz Street.
    Letters sent to surrounding property owners: 20 In Favor: 1 Opposed: 1
    STAFF COMMENTS
    The proposed S.U.P. is suitable for this site. Staff supports the proposed S.U.P.
    P&Z COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
    The P & Z Commission, in a 6 to 0 vote, recommended approval of the S.U.P.
    STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
    Staff supports the proposed Special Use Permit.

CITY OF LAREDO ORDINANCE NO. 2000-O-218

AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE (MAP)

OF THE CITY OF LAREDO BY AUTHORIZING THE

ISSUANCE OF A SPECIAL USE PERMIT FOR THE

E 2/3 OF LOT 2, BLOCK 2165A, AND LOTS 3,4,5,

6,7,8,9,10,11 AND 12, BLOCK 1480, EASTERN DIVISION, LOCATED AT THE 2600 BLOCK OF DIAZ STREET; PROVIDING FOR PUBLICATION AND EFFECTIVE DATE.

WHEREAS, the owner of E 2/3 of Lot 2, Block 2165A and Lots 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11 and 12, Block 1480, Eastern Division, located on the 2600 block of Diaz Street, has requested a Special Use Permit; and,

WHEREAS, notice of the zone change request was advertised in the newspaper at least fifteen (15) days prior to the public hearing held before the Planning and Zoning Commission on this matter; and,

WHEREAS, the required written notices were sent to surrounding property owners at least ten (10) days before the public hearing held before the Planning and Zoning Commission on August 3, 2000; and,

WHEREAS, the Planning and Zoning Commission, after a public hearing, has recommended approval of a Special Use Permit; and,

WHEREAS, the City Council has held a public hearing on August 28, 2000, on the request and finds the proposed Special Use Permit for the area is appropriate and consistent with the General Plan of the City of Laredo.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LAREDO THAT:

Section 1: The Zoning Map of the City of Laredo be and is hereby amended to authorize the issuance of a Special Use Permit for the use of mini-storage warehouses on the E 2/3 of Lot 2, Block 2165A and Lots 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12, Block 1480, Eastern Division, located at the 2600 block of Diaz Street.

Section 2: This ordinance shall be published in a manner provided by Section 2.09 (D) of the Charter of the City of Laredo.

Section 3: This ordinance shall become effective as and from the date of publication specified in Section 2.
