services to residents of Laredo and Webb County through the City of Laredo
Health Department. The City of Laredo FY 2000-2001 budget will be amended by 1/12 of the grant budgets, and the remaining 11/12 budget will be part of the FY 2001-2002 budget. #1 This amendment to the
contract includes a budget for the Community Health Education Program which provides health promotion and disease prevention
educational activities geared to promote healthy behaviors, and focuses on
women and children problems, such as teen pregnancy, tobacco, alcohol, and
drug use prevention, and early access to prenatal care. The project is designed to
decrease the high rate of health risk factors among the female residents in
Webb County, especially the rate of obesity, sedentary lifestyle and high
blood cholesterol which are closely related to the high rate of chronic
diseases, such as diabetes, coronary heart disease, cancer, and
hypertension. The project will also
target important children’s issues such as teenage pregnancy and alcohol and
drug abuse prevention. The grant
period begins on September 1, 2001, through August 31, 2002. BUDGET
