The Laredo Vital Statistics office hours of operation are Monday through Friday

8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  All Birth and Death records requested are issued the same day.

 

Birth Search and Certificate       $ 23.00

 

New fees effective November 3, 2012

Death Search and

First Death Certificate               $ 21.00 

 

Each Additional Copy of
the Same Death Record
(ordered at the same time)       $   4.00

 

Processing fee of $5.00 is required for each certified copy of birth or death record requested by Mail.

Requirements to obtain a Birth or Death Certificate

 

Birth certificates for births within the past 75 years and death certificates for deaths within the past 25 years are considered protected and access is restricted to qualified applicants. Valid photo identification is required to prove your identity as a qualified applicant.

 

Qualified applicant

  • Self/Registrant (person on record)
  • An immediate family member (parents – name of parent must be listed on birth record; grandparents - birth certificate of one of the parents will be required to prove relationship; siblings – birth certificate will be required to prove relationship)
  • Spouse (a marriage license will be required)
  • Legal Guardian (copy of the legal guardianship papers, ie. court order is required)
  • Legal Representative (document establishing legal interest required)

Current/Valid Photo identification is required:

  • Valid US Government issued driver’s license
  • Valid US Government issued State/City/County ID card
  • Valid US Student ID with picture
  • Valid US/State/City Government employment badge or card
  • Current Prison ID / Offender ID card
  • Valid US Military ID
  • Valid Passport (from any Country)
  • Valid Border Crossing card (Passport Card)
  • US Citizenship Certificate or Certificate of Naturalization
  • Valid Permanent Resident Card or Resident Alien Card

Applications for obtaining a Birth and/or Death certificate are issued daily, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.   Application link

You may download the application and include the following.  Application link

  1. Complete and sign an application for each birth or death certificate that is being requested
  2. Submit a photo copy of a qualified applicant’s valid photo identification (color copy preferred)
  3. Include payment.  Acceptable payment methods are by money order or credit card (Visa or Mastercard).  To pay by credit card you must include a completed Credit Card Authorization form. Credit Card Authorization Form link
    • Payment will need to include cost of certified copy(ies), certified mail cost, and processing fee

For faster service you may email the completed application and valid photo Identification to vitalstatistics@ci.laredo.tx.us. Then fax the Credit Card Authorization form to (956) 795-2025. (Available for out-of-town requests only)

Processing fee of $5.00 is required for each certified copy of birth or death record requested by Mail. 

Estimated processing time for regular mail or email is two business days from date of receipt.  Certified copies will be mailed by certified mail at a cost of $6.65. 

 

Optional: Include a self addressed stamped envelope or overnight mail envelope, and the certified mail cost will be waived

For Texas vital records (birth and death certificates), you may apply at www.texas.gov, the eGovernment site for the State of Texas. The estimated processing time is 10-15 business days.  A U.S. government issued valid identification is required.

Amendment to a Birth or Death Certificate

Application to Amend Certificate of Birth Amend Cert of Birth application

The most common change made to a birth certificate is the addition of the father’s name.  This change to a certificate can be made by submitting the Application for a New Birth Certificate Based on Parentage Form (VS-166) http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/vs/reqproc/amendparentage.shtm signed by both parents in the presence of a notary public with one of the following documents:

  • Certified copy of a marriage license between the mother and the biological father
  • Properly completed State of Texas Acknowledgement of Paternity Form (VS-159.1)-Contact our local office for assistance
  • Certified copy of a court decree establishing parentage between the child and the biological father
