Many wipes manufacturers mark products as "flushable" or "disposable", however even if a product says it is flushable, unless it is toilet paper, it should not be flushed. Flushing these items down toilets may cause sewer blockage and may cause raw sewage back up into your home.

The City of Laredo Utilities Department wants to remind all residents that wipes block pipes. Unless it is toilet paper, it should not be flushed.

Items that should never be flushed  are the following:

  • "flushable" wipes
  • baby wipes
  • diapers
  • disinfecting wipes
  • make-up removing wipes
  • toilet seat covers
  • medicines
  • dental floss
  • sanitary napkins
  • feminine hygiene products
  • condoms
  • plastic wrappers
